Dr. Joseph Gilbert is a retired physician, neuropathologist and former Vice President of Research at London Health Sciences Centre. Prior to retirement he was the Chief Administrative Officer at the Lawson Health Research Institute and served on numerous local and national committees related to research.

As a lifelong classical music fan, Dr. Gilbert has in recent years concentrated on the interface of Judaic subjects and opera and music. He has lectured on subjects such as Felix Mendelssohn, his music and legacy: French Opera and Anti-Semitism; Jewish Folk Tales that became opera subjects, The Dybbuk and The Golem, Entartete Musik, (Degenerate Music), When Great Art Meets Great Evil; and the portrayal of Jews in Opera, among other topics. These talks have taken him to Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Florida, as well as his hometown of London, Ontario.

Joseph Gilbert continues his medical and science interest as Chair of the Health Research Ethics Board at the University of Western Ontario.
